Introduction to Hydrogen Production via Electrolysis

In this course, you’ll discover how electrolysis turns water and renewable electricity into high-purity hydrogen—the clean fuel of the future.

You’ll explore:

  • How hydrogen is produced and why green is the gold standard for sustainability.
  • The inner workings of a hydrogen production facility.
  • The four main electrolyzer technologies—ALK, PEM, AEM, SOEC—and when to use them.
  • Global market trends, key players, and inspiring success stories.

Whether you’re new to hydrogen or looking to deepen your technical expertise, this course will give you the knowledge to understand, discuss, and shape the hydrogen revolution.

I invite you to read this excerpt from the article: An overview of water electrolysis technologies for green hydrogen production

“Hydrogen can be produced from various sources of raw materials including renewable and non-renewable sources which are around 87 million tons/year (Dawood et al., 2020; Milani et al., 2020). However, as of 2020, most of the hydrogen (95%) was produced from non-renewable fossil fuels especially steam reforming of natural gas, emitting 830 million tons/year of CO2 and the rest of the hydrogen was produced from renewable resources including water electrolysis (Mosca et al., 2020; IEA, 2019b).
